[edit] Moving of this page
I've renamed this (excellent) page since green belts are no longer solely a UK issue and there were separate pages "Green belt" and "Green Belt" distinguished only by capitalisation, and dealing with the general concept and with UK greenbelts respectively. "Green Belt" now redirects to "Green belt", which has a link to this page as a prominent example. Hope this meets with everyone's approval. Best wishes, Cambyses 21:13, 26 May 2004 (UTC)

Shouldn't we say something about London leaping over the greenbelt? Mark Richards 21:19, 26 May 2004 (UTC)
[edit] POV assertion
I removed this text: "The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) has been campaigning since 1926 for the protection of the countryside from urban sprawl. It influences planning policy, and seeks urban regeneration as a way to protect the countryside from urban sprawl. In 1955, in response to CPRE pressure, the Government set out a Green Belt policy. In 2005 CPRE celebrates 50 years of the Green Belt policy but will highlight the latest development pressures which threaten Green Belts."
It is highly POV cliam green belts as a triumph for CPRE. They are influential, but green belt were part of environmental thinking since before CPRE was set up. Icundell 11:49, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- I wondered what to do with this text when I moved it. I disagree that it is highly POV - the only possible POV sentence is "In 1955, in response to CPRE pressure, the Government set out a Green Belt policy." which may or may not be true (I don't know!) - and it refers to influencing the UK Green Belt policy not whatever was part of "environmental thinking". In the end I decided to leave it as is. Either way, the CPRE probably needs a mention on the page about the UK Green Belt as it is a notable campaigner. Perhaps change it to something as simple as: "The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) has been campaigning since 1926 for the protection of the countryside from urban sprawl, including the UK Green Belt areas."? - Sorry - I can't face wikipedia as often as I used to be able to. It was highly POV in the sense that it credited CPRE solely for their introduction, which is simply false. What happned to Ebenezer Howard and the Town and Country Planning Association, eh? ~~

[edit] Date of 1st introduction
It would be helpful to add when the green belt was 1st introduced - ideally in the 1st paragraph. Brandonfletcher 12:03, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Green belt (UK)
Surely this is an inappropriate title just now. The UK isn't covered within this page just ENgland and Wales, shouldthis not be redressed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.195.48.90 (talk) 12:45, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
