According to the crieria listed at Template talk:North America class 1:

  1. If it currently exists, put it on the correct template under current.
  2. Otherwise, put it under former in the highest class it has reached.
The GB&W was a Class I railroad from 1918-1975; a class II railroad from 1976-1985; and a class III railroad after that.
