The Beeching Axe did not spell the end for Yarmouth Southtown.
The 1844 line from Norwich to Yarmouth was a long way off being one of the first railways in the UK. Norfolk was very late in getting railway connections due to its relatively low industrial trade. The Stockton and Darlington Railway opened in 1825.
