Talk:Great Coxwell Barn
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Is there any evidence that this was actually a 'Tithe' barn? The National Trust's (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-greatcoxwellbarn/w-greatcoxwellbarn-brief_history.htm) page about the barn doesn't mention 'Tithe' - and Mick Aston in 'Mick's Archeology' (p 107) seems to suggest that it's not WikiWriter (talk) 14:59, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Renaming
- I'm for a Rename - I'm not an expert in the field, but I understand that 'tithe' has implications of 'in kind' payment of rent. Since it was build for a Monastery - who (I'm guessing) claimed the whole crop on their land - it was build at a 'grange' barn, but it may have become a 'tithe' barn after the 'privatisation' of Henry VIII. Also - 'tithe' in the title suggest purpose - there are other 'Great Barns' in England - why not rename the article to 'Great Barn - Great Coxwell' (for example) then the title does not imply purpose, but the article content could contain the 'discussion' regarding 'tithe' / 'grange' WikiWriter (talk) 13:40, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry, I didn't see your post, and have renamed, based on more google book results for missing out the 'tithe' from the title. Addhoc (talk) 13:47, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- Not a problem - we were working at the same time - I'd like to see 'Great' added (the barn is 144ft long by 38ft) at some point WikiWriter (talk) 13:55, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
