The Great Seal of Newfoundland was given royal approval in 1827. It depicts Mercury, the god of commerce and merchandise, presenting to Britannia a fisherman who, kneeling, offers her the harvest of the sea. Above this device are the words Terra Nova, and below, the words Haec Tibi Dona Fero - "These gifts I bring thee."

This is a representation of a government, military, regimental, family, or other symbol such as a flag, seal, emblem, coat of arms or crest. This symbol may be copyrighted by its holder. As well, it is known that the representation of this symbol is either copyrighted by the holder of the symbol, or is available under a free licence.
