Greenwich Country Day School

The Greenwich Country Day School is a co-educational, independent day school in Greenwich, Connecticut, founded in 1926. As of 2005, it has some 840 students from nursery to 9th grade level.

It is accredited by the State of Connecticut through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools. The school resides on a large rolling campus set into a series of hills. The campus is divided into three distinct schools.

1) Lower School: Kindergarten through third grade

2) Middle School: fourth through sixth grade

3) Upper School: seventh through ninth grade.

Greenwich Country Day holds to many traditional New England values and traditions and attempts to instill students with a wide variety of both academic and social skills. Notable sports programs include ice hockey and lacrosse, from which many students go on to pursue college and even professional careers. Greenwich Country Day is noted for its excellent instruction and unique facilities.

GCDS is very active in charity work requiring a specific amount of charity hours per school year. It also teaches four different foreign languages: Latin, French, Spanish, and Mandarin (Chinese). The language study includes very skilled teachers who have mastered these languages. Creativity is greatly valued at GCDS, students are encouraged to write, play music, sing, take photos, and use computer graphics.
