Greenway, London
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Greenway is a footpath and cycleway in East London constructed on the embankment containing the Northern Outfall Sewer. The path runs from Wick Lane in Bow through Stratford, Plaistow and Newham to Royal Docks Road in Beckton. It was known locally as sewerbank before a full renovation in the mid-nineties. However, the route has once again fallen into disrepair and is riddled with graffiti along most of its length.
The Capital Ring Walk (section 14) follows The Greenway for most of its distance.
Parts of the footpath around the Stratford and West Ham areas will be further renovated in 2008 by Adams and Sutherland Architects to give direct pedestrian and cycle access to the London Olympic Park for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. It is expected that during construction of the London Olympic stadium, a visitors' centre will be sited on the route near the construction site.[citation needed]
