The town is planning to construct a central water utility as of 2006.[citation needed] As of September 22 2006 Greens Fork is no longer planning on constructing a central water utility. The town council could not convince enough residents to make connect to the system, making the rates too expensive for the town.

The town of Greens Fork derives its name from the Greens Fork river on which it is situated. Both the river and the town get their name from a Delaware Indian named Johnny Green.[citation needed]
