Greenhills upper school was recognized as one of six national Intel Schools of Distinction for excellence as one of the nation's top schools for science. The program recognizes one school for math and one for science in each of three school ranges (elementary, middle and high school).^[1]

Admission to Greenhills is competitive. Applicants for ninth grade must take the SSAT. About 60% of students come from Ann Arbor, and others come from cities such as Novi, Plymouth, Dexter, Farmington Hills, Ypsilanti, Howell, Fenton, Canton, Northville, and more.

Applicants are required to take the SSAT and are also required to spend a day at the school to ensure that Greenhills will be a proper fit. Applicants also have to have three recommendations, send their transcript, and complete short answer questions and essays.

Upper School Tuition is $16,500 for the 2007-2008 school year, with financial aid given to about 20% of the student body.

Greenhills offers a comprehensive extracurricular program. It includes clubs such as Forensics, Multicultural Focus, Varsity & JV Improv Club, Meditation, The Alcove, Amnesty International, Environmental Club, Service Learning, Gay-Straight Alliance, Ping-Pong Club, Gryphon Ambassadors, Math Club, Model UN, and more. Students are also encouraged to start a club of their interest, such as the Harry Potter Club, Horse Club, and Photography Club.
