Greenhills, East Kilbride

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Greenhills is an area within the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire.

Greenhills is a residential area on the southern boundary of the town.

The Greenhills shopping centre is situated adjacent to the highest point in East Kilbride, known locally as High Point, and is the terminus for many of the local bus services from Glasgow and the Town Centre, such as the 18, 20 and 31.

The Greenhills area is represented at South Lanarkshire level by councillor Archie Buchanan, of the Scottish National Party, who had previously served on the now defunct East Kilbride Town Council. He was also a bouncer at a local nightclub called Crystals for many years.

Until 2004, Greenhills was served by two secondary schools, Ballerup and St Andrews. These schools have since merged with two other schools, Duncanrig and St Brides, respectively, as part of East Kilbride's school modernisation programme.

Notable Grenhillians include Lorraine Kelly, 'star' of ITV breakfast television and some members of the band, the Jesus and Mary Chain.
