The Green River Female Academy, better known as the Green River Academy was built as a sister building to the Old Todd County Courthouse in 1835. The building was constructed as a private school for girls and built on bonds that were sold to wealthy families throughout the south. The school at its height was operated by Yale graduate Charles Worth and boarded female students from throughout the south. The school held its prestige until the American civil war. Thereafter, the school became a public school for the local community of Elkton, Kentucky. The school remained open until 1989 when Judge Forgy bought the building and converted it into a residence. Forgy removed the majority of high-federal style characteristics and divided many of the rooms into smaller quarters. After Judge Forgy's death in the early 1900's, the house was sold and fell into ruin soon thereafter. The mansion exist on Gobel Avenue in Elkton, Kentucky.
