[edit] Economy
The GVA for the South-West Region (Co. Cork/Kerry) is more than 24,877 billion Euro (2005), second to that of Greater Dublin and ahead of Greater Belfast. The Cork Metropolitan area is the core employment hub in the region, if not in Munster. It has clusters of international scale in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, software, electronic hardware, food and drink, merchant shipping and related sectors, oil and gas refining and a burgeoning financial services overspill from Dublin. It is also a centre for hi-tech research in electronics and biotechnology second only to Dublin on the island of Ireland.
