The great lanternshark, Etmopterus princeps, is a shark of the family Dalatiidae found in the northeast and northwest Atlantic, between latitudes 65° N and 13° N, at depths of between 300 and 2,310 m. Its length is up to 75 cm.

The little-known great lanternshark is a large, heavy-bodied lanternshark with a stout blackish body with no conspicuous markings. The gill openings are very long. There are wide-spaced denticles on the sides, not in rows. The second dorsal fin is larger than the first.

It is found on the continental shelves.

Reproduction is ovoviviparous.
