The Great Western Lacrosse League, also known as the GWLL, is a NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse-only college athletic conference. The conference was created when the NCAA Lacrosse tournament instituted Automatic Qualifiers; in so doing, it eliminated the "western region" bid.

[edit] History
The original members were Air Force, Butler, Denver, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. However, the NCAA requires a conference to have six members for an Automatic Qualifier. Fairfield was added as a 6th member. Fairfield later left the conference and Quinnipiac joined as the new 6th member.
Bellarmine University created a men's lacrosse team in 2006, and joined the GWLL in 2007.
Butler University exited the GWLL when the Butler Athletics Department decided to drop several sports programs including men's lacrosse in January of 2007. [1]
In 2008, the GWLL held its first championship tournament. Notre Dame won the championship with a 9-2 victory over Ohio State, earning an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship.[2] In addition to Notre Dame making the national championship tournament, Ohio State and University of Denver received "at-large" bids.[3]
