The Great Synagogue of Łódź, Poland, was built in 1881, designed by Adolf Wolff and paid mostly by local industrialists, e.g. Izrael Poznański, Joachim Silberstein and Karol Scheibler. The synagogue was burnt down by Nazis in November 1939 and dismantled in 1940.
