Great Neck North has been considered as one of the hundred top schools in the nation for the past several years. Not only are the classes educational and even enjoyable, but the school offers several after school extra curricular activities, such as sports, involvement in the school One Acts and musical, various different culture clubs, music clubs (e.g. Chamber Music, Pop Jazz, etc.), several science and math clubs, yoga club, involvement in the school literary magazine and newspaper, yearbook, etc.
Students from surrounding elementary schools such as Baker, JFK, Saddle Rock and others typically enter this school for their three years in middle school (grades six through eight), before advancing to the high school, North High, which is located immediately next to the middle school.
Due to the wide range of activities provdided for student involvement, students such as former alumni Nikki Blonsky, actress in the upcoming movie Hair Spray, get to try their hand at a bit of everything, eventually discovering their own passions, whether it is writing, or acting, or mathematics or humanitarian work as is provided by groups such as SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions).
In brief, the school offers a great many opportunities to a great many number of people/students.
