[edit] History

Originally known as the Border Cities Junior "B" Hockey League, the league dates back to at least the 1956. The league was demoted and altered its name to the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League in 1970 when the Western Junior B Hockey League grew to dominate the region and eclipse the old Border Cities league. During the 1970-71 season, the Great Lakes league existed as a multi-tiered league, with the top half of the league entered into the OHA playoffs as Jr. B teams and the bottom half as Jr. C.
