The Great Britain national basketball team, or Team GB for short, was re-established by the national basketball organisations of England, Scotland and Wales on December 1, 2005. It consists of men's and women's sides at senior and Under 20 level (at under-age level, each home nation continues to field separate regional squads).
Its goal is to assemble a combined national team with the ambition of winning a medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London [1].
The senior men's Head Coach is Chris Finch, assisted by Tony Garbelotto (Head Coach of Everton Tigers and Hackney Community College Basketball Academy). Its leading players include British NBA star Luol Deng [2], Robert Archibald and Andrew Betts.
British Performance Basketball is responsible for co-ordinating and preparing the elite men's and women's basketball teams in Great Britain.
Northern Irish players are eligible to play for a combined Ireland team together with those from the Republic of Ireland.

Great Britain won 163-119 on aggregate and succeeded in qualifying to Division A of FIBA Europe national basketball and now have the chance to qualify for EuroBasket 2009[3]. Playing in the A division is the principal criterion that Team Great Britain must fulfil to earn a host berth in the London 2012 Olympics. During the 6 EuroBasket Division B qualifying games, GB won by an average score of over 25 points per game, holding the lead in those games for 237 out of 240 minutes [4].
