Great Britain is planning on sending a team to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Athletes from the United Kingdom have competed in every Summer Olympic Games since 1896. Great Britain is represented by the British Olympic Association (BOA), and the team of selected athletes are officially known as Team GB.

Athletes from Northern Ireland can choose whether they want to represent Great Britain or Ireland at the Olympics.[citation needed]

At the 2007 World Outdoor Target Championships, Great Britain's men's team placed second and its women's team placed third. This qualified the nation to send full teams of three men and three women to the Olympics.[1]

Khalid Yafai, Joe Murray, Frankie Gavin, Bradley Saunders, Billy Joe Saunders, James Degale, Tony Jeffries, and David Price are expected to represent Great Britain, subject to nomination by the British Amateur Boxing Association.[2]

Ben Ainslie, Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb, Pippa Wilson, Stevie Morrison, Ben Rhodes, Paul Goodison, Iain Percy and Andrew Simpson have been officially selected for Team GB.[3]

The Great Britain men's team qualified for the mens Olympic Hockey tournament after a must win game against India in the final of the 2007 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship.
