Great Bend is a borough in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States, 39 miles north of Scranton. The population was 700 at the 2000 census.

Great Bend is located at 41°58′24″N, 75°44′40″W (41.973226, -75.744376)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 700 people, 329 households, and 185 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,611.4 people per square mile (1,001.0/km²). There were 344 housing units at an average density of 1,283.3/sq mi (491.9/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.71% White, 0.14% African American, 0.14% Native American and 1.00% Asian.

There were 329 households out of which 26.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.3% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.5% were non-families. 38.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 22.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.13 and the average family size was 2.80.

In the borough the population was spread out with 21.6% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 89.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.2 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $27,708, and the median income for a family was $39,464. Males had a median income of $29,911 versus $19,479 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $15,009. About 8.5% of families and 13.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.5% of those under age 18 and 16.8% of those age 65 or over.
