GRES Unidos de Padre Miguel

The GRES Unidos de Padre Miguel is a samba school of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Headquartered on Rua Mesquita, in the neighborhood of Padre Miguel, the school is seen like as the younger sister of Mocidade .
It was one of the councils of the Rural Zone, in its first parade in Praça Onze in 1959, becomes champion and acquires the right present itself among the other famous samba schools, in 1960. However, the bad collocation it obtained caused it to return to be "A poeira" (The dust), the inferior categories. In 1963, it obtains again a good collocation in the intermediary group and ascends to Group 1, to return again (in the following year) to Group 2, after an unhappy presentation.
The school, that came to parade for other two years in the First Group (1971 and 1972), passes by a good moment nowadays with three consecutive accesses obtained from 2003 to 2006. Already in Grupo B in 2007, it conquered an honorable sixth collocation. Nothing wrong for a council that until 2004 stayed in Group E.
In this way the sympathetic and lovable samba school presents itself, and overcomes the little resources that it affords, with the enthusiasm at the parades.
