[edit] etymology
Are we really classifying articles on concepts by the etymology of the word for that concept? That seems insupportable to me. For instance the concept "academia" is also reflected by synonymous words that might have (likely do) have very different etymologies. One article on a concept would have multiple etymology categories. This seems like a form of overcategorization in an encyclopedia, although it might well be appropriate for a dictionary. Thoughts? --Lquilter (talk) 18:47, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- I see your point on encyclopedia vs. dictionary and I tend to agree. Though I would like to see an article on the topic with some kind of list (perhaps on wiktionary). --Kimontalk 20:02, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, an article would be great and really informative. How did it happen? Renaissance scholarship? The Catholic church? via Latin & Roman conquest? Did certain kinds of words come over at certain times? ... But a category, I don't know. --Lquilter (talk) 00:53, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- I like it! I have no clue where to start as that's not my area of expertise. I'll post the request to WikiProject Greece and see if anyone there could/would do it. --Kimontalk 14:14, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
