Note: this sub-Lab was not open because in 2007 because :
-
- the English GLab was not enough active in 2007 to be divided in two specialised Lab, it's to the current graphits to think about open this sub-lab if need ;
- the Project:Map , which was on en.wikipedia.org for years before the Graphic Lab (us) displayed resistance to be convert into a Graphic Lab's subpage or simply to change their usages. So, despite their Wikipedia:WikiProject Maps/Requested and orphan maps is a death page, and despite I think a forum shaped page (like the GLab) is better for cross help, teach/learn exchanges, and to harmonize maps style, I didn't insisted (they were here first after all). Also, from what I seen (10 or 6 months ago), the project:Map continue to work on an "anarchist way" : each volunteer mapmaker making maps on his side, and then using the Project talkpage to ask help and share knowledge.
- I now think the best thing to do should be to merge [WikiProject Maps/Requested and orphan maps] and [Wikipedia:Graphic Lab/Project map].
Other thing to notice about maps on wikipedia :
- In summer 2007, the ~ten best mapmakers on wiki-en, wiki-fr, and commons were noticed about the project to set up new common map recommendations. The task is really HUGE (I means HUGE), and is just done at ~30% (first stage).
To avoid lost of time (by endless talks), the French graphist plan to lead the second stage alone : "set workable and complete recommendations".
The stage 3 will be to ask experts to harmonize and improvement the colors, icones, naming conventions according to the aim to communicate clearly (Avoiding chartjunk) with graphical medium.
