[edit] Merging data from two images

Stale. DyceBot (talk) 07:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Article(s): Electromagnetic spectrum

Request: The electromagnetic spectrum article is cluttered with so many EM pictures which just restates what was in the previous picture. Can someone please merge the information from these 2 images together? Thank you so very much!-- penubag  (talk) 01:01, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: What, specifically, do you want merged?--HereToHelp (talk to me) 01:26, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Everything that's in image2 that's not in image1, which isn't much: (wavelength, electromagnetic radiation names (gamma, x-ray, etc), and the text in gray (if possible). Again, thanks a lot! -- penubag  (talk) 02:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
X-rays and gamma rays are in image 1, as are the wavelengths (just stated in meters and scientific notation rather than a bunch of different meter-based units. The gray text ("Near IR", "Thermal IR", "AM") is minor and I might be able to add that in, but it might disrupt the flow so much that it wouldn't be worth it. The 50 to 1000 MHz blowup is so detailed that it might be worth creating a separate image of only that.--HereToHelp (talk to me) 21:11, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Agree with HereToHelp. Apart from the radio/TV frequencies everything is already in EM Spectrum Properties edit.svg. For the radio wave bit a new image involving all of the frequencies in Radio frequency would be nice. Possibly with a small image/icon for each band. /23:30, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Graphic designer needed

Stale. DyceBot (talk) 07:03, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm looking for a skilled graphic designer.

I need an image for a non-barnstar Wikipedia award with the theme "World Traveler".

I was thinking perhaps the following image, without the barnstar, and with the globe (or another one) superimposed over the Wikipedia globe (or the Wikipedia globe superimposed over it) - I'd like to see the world's countries and the puzzle pieces (with the continents more prominent).

The image also needs a passport laying on the surface beneath the globe stand (where its shadow is, but the shadow should be retained as well). The image's background must be transparent (not white like the background of the image below).

Image:Interlingual Barnstar.png

Is this something you can do?

If so, please contact me on my talk page.

I look forward to your reply.

The Transhumanist    03:38, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

-- penubag  (talk) 07:00, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Good start. Can you change the globe to one where you can discern the continents? Then place it in the brass stand in the image above, then place the passport on the surface beneath the stand? The Transhumanist    07:29, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Would it help if I created a stylized svg passport?--HereToHelp (talk to me) 19:02, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] EADS Space Tourism

Resolved. 01:00, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Article(s): EADS Astrium Space Tourism Project

Request: Create a .SVG version of the following mission curve. Hektor (talk) 23:24, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion:

It would be easier to do with the original data. /Lokal_Profil 22:44, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Unfortunately I picked the information in a French newspaper Le Figaro last year, I have thrown it away a long time ago. You can find a similar curve on this .pdf document however. Hektor (talk) 07:04, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay. After having looked around I se no way of making a new version based on only the data. The current image and the pdf one are both artistic graphs (i.e. curvature of line etc. does not necessarily relate to velocities and scales on axis aren't uniform). Now I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing just that the only way to make a derivative was to trace the curve in the png. Anyhow I've upped a first draft with just the curve and the axis for now. The arrows on the axis aren't visible in the thumbnail above but can be seen here. /Lokal_Profil 23:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Well meanwhile I have contacted a journalist from Le Figaro. He told me he could send me a copy of the article but that basically the artist who made the drawing for the newspaper did it à main levée (with only the hand) based on press release material supplied by EADS, and that basically my own drawing in wikipedia had no more and less validity than theirs, since they never had the original data (except that the plane starts from about 12 km and climbs to about 100 km, and transitions back to aeronautic mode at an altitude a little higher than 12 km, etc, all what you can find in the drawing...). I would consider the .pdf, as being a direct Astrium document and not through Le Figaro as a better source. And many thanks for working on my request. Hektor (talk) 06:51, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
OK. Should be done. I added a few more altitudes from the wikipedia article. Not sure about the length of the rocket propulsion section, the pdf says 90 sec but your image said 80 sec. It's 90 for now but if ther is a source which says otherwise I'll change this. Added lables instead of text for the various sections since this should make the image easier to translate and, I find, the text goes better in the image caption anyhow. Any feedback on colours, errors, omissions etc. are welcome. /Lokal_Profil 18:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
I have no suggestion for improvement at this point. I think that we can close this one... And thanks a lot, of course ! Hektor (talk) 21:06, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Resolved.

Article(s): None on Wikipedia - to be used on multiple Wikisources

Request: I started removing the yellow area of the image, and this is the result. Please try and finish the work for me. Also there was some red text on the bottom of the page ("Garzanti") - it isn't there anymore, but it the traces can still be seen. Please also remove those as well. diego_pmc (talk) 10:04, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: Here is the SVG version, does it need any colours -- Cradel 13:38, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

The circle and all in it will need to be white and the writing could be typed out rather than traced. Mangwanani (talk) 14:53, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
The circle in is white but i only traced the letters-- Cradel 15:09, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Black and white is fine. Would it be possible to type out the letters so they come out cleaner? Also, is there any way to sharpen the lines on the eagle and shield? Many thanks! --evrik (talk) 19:17, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
My monitor shows the transparency. That's what I meant by white. Mangwanani (talk) 15:42, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually there was a background but I forgot to change the opacity, anyway I fixed it now -- Cradel 22:04, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I took a shot at redoing the letters; not sure if they feel like they match the eagle but you can use it if you think it's better. The eagle was taken directly from Cradel's version... doing any better with that is well beyond me. Carl Lindberg (talk) 07:12, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, unless someone wants to take a crack at cleaning up the eagle pixel by pixek, I think it looks much better. Thank you, all. --evrik (talk)

I hate to say it, but that may be the end result: It's impossible to tell what the eagle's holding, or what's on the shield. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 16:14, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Looks like a fairly standard federal eagle... spade shaped shield (similar to the presidential seal) with three stars and stripes, holding an olive branch and three arrows. We would still have to guess at the details though so unless we find a better version to work off of, this is probably good. Carl Lindberg (talk) 05:37, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: Does any of these work ? , in the first one I removed Davy Hill because having both cities/towns didn't look that well, but I uploaded both so you decide which is better (the location of Brades was taken from the article ) -- CD 12:00, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Request: lighten for detail -- Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:38, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: Anything of an improvement? It seems way too garish, although it's much sharper now. Less adjustment was practically useless. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 19:38, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps the answer may be to cut the background away, like was done with the Steve Jobs photo several months ago? Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 21:08, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

The background is visible enough to crop out, someone please do so. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 06:26, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
JPEG doesn't support transparency, so it has to be PNG and it's quite a lot bigger. Reducing resolution loses very little detail, but I leave it to your discretion. Article(s): Coat of arms of Gagauzia

Request: SVGify, colors described at Coat of arms of Gagauzia -- Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:38, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion:

In the mean time, I've removed the transparency from the GIF image and uploaded a transparent version in PNG format; that way at least it scales down better. By the way, looking at the color levels on the original GIF (and in particular the few "blacker-than-black" pixels around the banner), I have a suspicion that this may have originally been a color image that someone converted to grayscale. Anyone have any idea about the original colors? —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 19:53, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

He said, "colors described at Coat of arms of Gagauzia." I could not find a colored version on Google as a model... James1293 (talk) 20:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
I think he meant the articel on the Coat (Or the FotW page it references). 68.39.174.238 (talk) 14:26, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
The article states "...white field, the yellow semi-circle of the rising sun. The shield is framed by golden spikes, themselves surrounded by a representation of the flag of Gagauzia. In the lower part, beyond the limits of the shield, is a conventional representation of grapevine leaves and grapes. The shield is surmounted by three five-pointed golden stars forming an equilateral triangle." I have added the flag for the color scheme. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 14:57, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

This appears to be being dealt with below; should this be blanked, or archived as "done anyway", or...? 68.39.174.238 (talk) 16:18, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tenochtitlan glyph

Resolved.

Article(s): Tenochtitlan and elsewhere

Request: An SVG of the glyph for Tenochtitlan. There are several different versions of this. It's a flowering cactus on top of a stylized stone (the eagle isn't part of the glyph itself). The details of the cactus don't seem to matter a great deal (e.g. it can have 1, 2 or 3 arms), but the stone always has the same form. Pick whichever is easiest to do and most visible at small sizes. Or maybe just cut out the one from the coat of arms and straighten up the cactus. -- Ptcamn (talk) 17:04, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion:

Request: fix glare, even out coloration -- Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:39, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: This is not as easy as one might think. It's really hard to fix glare; you have to basically re-draw the area using "cheating" tools like the clone brush. OK, svg part done, picked the same colours for now but they are far from ideal. Note that the images aren't identical since the data for two more years has been added. /Lokal_Profil 00:51, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Color scheme: How about a rainbow, with new countries in red and old ones in purple, maybe with permanent members in brown or black? (Or just deep purple)--HereToHelp (talk to me) 01:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the update and the svg. As for the colours, the map does not show years, merely frequency as to how many times they have been elected. See Here. I would say black for the Permanent members and dark colours for the countries elected the most, up to lighter countries having only stood one year. The other problems lead up to the creations of new bands. For example, if Canada is elected for two more years, it would go up to 14 in total. As there is not a colour for this, a new band would have to be made, and if the colours scale then it may have to fit in between two other colours. --23230 talk 16:08, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

I think darker/lighter colours is probably a good idea, it doesn't prevent us from going from a dark purple to a light red though. A suggestion with 3 colours is Image:Kommunval2006-V.svg, one with one only is Image:SverigesFolktäthetKommunvis2007.svg. The second one would make it easy to find areas of countries that get elected often and see any global geographical patterns etc., it does however make it harder to identify how many times a specific country has been elected. /Lokal_Profil 17:55, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I was wondering about the need for specifics. Could there just be boundaries like 2-4 times, 5-7 times - something along those lines... Mangwanani (talk) 18:44, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I have created a series of swatches that can be used, posted in the gallery. Besides the grey (0 years) and black (permanent members), I used the Munsell color system to differentiate each color in spectrum which should give us as many values as we need. Starting at hue 0, I worked my way up to 240 in steps of 20 hues, at constant chroma and value. I then repeated the series of hues with the same chroma but a lower value, giving us two distinct spectra. I tried to increase the hue while decreasing value to create one spectrum, but either the differences would be too small or I'd run out of value (i.e. it would be black in the middle of the second set of greens).--HereToHelp (talk to me) 21:17, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Liked the colours. Implemented them using the lightest for 1 etc. this way there are coulours up untill 26 so yearly updates should be ok. Only colour I'm not happy with ended up being the black one maybe using #0a0a0a would give a more matt black look without looking grey. /Lokal_Profil 23:39, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Swithced to #0f0f0f for the black. The two versions of the map can be compared here (#000000)and here (#0f0f0f). /Lokal_Profil 23:44, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Looks good, but now that I see it in place that black still looks too strong. (I hadn't realized how few countries would be in to the second, darker spectrum.) Perhaps a 70%-80% grey?--HereToHelp (talk to me) 12:56, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
  1. 1e1e1e for black (70% Grey). Looks matt enough to go well with the other colours. Thanks for the colour help, should come in handy for future maps as well =) /Lokal_Profil 16:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very mutch, the new version is much better.--23230 talk 18:30, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 9/11

Resolved.

— User officially dropped request. 68.39.174.238 (talk) 21:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Article(s):Potentially Flight 11, Flight 175, and 9/11

Request:Would like it to be in SVG format. Upload it to Commons, I will delete this version. -- VegitaU (talk) 00:07, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion:

Ever the copyright watchout, is there any source supporting that this image comes from a U.S. Gov. source? The source on the image page just indicates that it was an exhibit in a trial but doesn't state the original source. /Lokal_Profil 00:40, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've updated the image source to point to the original FEMA report which seems to be the source of the image. /Lokal_Profil 00:46, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
This image is from a PDF report. Which of the free tools listed here are actually easy-to-use for converting PDF vector images to SVG vector images? Feel free to move this question to the talk page if necessary. I run across useful illustrations frequently in U.S. federal government documents. They are nearly all in the public domain. --Timeshifter (talk) 17:08, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Unfortunately, it's not a vector image—it's an embedded JPG. This one will have to be done old school style :) For converting actual PDF-embedded vectors into SVG, Ghostscript (with Ghostview for easy use) is unbeatable IMHO. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 17:22, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I am looking at the 9/11 flight-path illustration on page 6 in the PDF file in Adobe Reader. How do I save the jpg image? I can't find anything from the right-click menu offhand that seems to work. Nor from a cursory look at the menus at the top of Adobe Reader. Is there a way to save all the embedded images in the PDF file at once? --Timeshifter (talk) 17:36, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I believe the xpdf package offers something of the sort (as long as the file isn't encrypted, of course). There's also jpegextractor, which is not PDF-specific, but may not be too user-friendly (I've never used either program). Fvasconcellos (t·c) 17:46, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Let me just tell you I appreciate the effort. If I had the software to work it myself I would. Please attempt to conserve as much information and scale as possible. Thank you. -- VegitaU (talk) 17:32, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Just a note—I really don't have the time to work on this myself right now, I was just commenting on an automatic conversion not being an option here. Don't worry, though—we have plenty of vector editors :) Fvasconcellos (t·c) 17:39, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
A note on pdf2svg - Inkscape 0.46 has native .pdf support and having used it a couple of times it looks good. Plus you get your converter and editor in one. Dhatfield (talk) 08:43, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Just wondering - why do you want this in SVG? It's a perfectly good pic. I know it's A Good Thing on in principle but that's a lot of work that will show little improvement. Dhatfield (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 10:02, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
I just thought these kinds of images needed to be in SVG form. Non-photograph diagrams I mean. -- VegitaU (talk) 03:12, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Dhatfield : 1. the png is pretty good (quality) and really large ; 2. if convert it in SVG ask more than 15 min : then that's not interesting (will show a too little improvement for hours of works). 220.135.4.212 (talk) 17:55, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
All right, then. I'm retracting this request. -- VegitaU (talk) 19:41, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Request: This ad has rough edges on the text and graphic...could you help me fix it? Thanks! Bob the Wikipedian (talk) 16:11, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion: I would love to do it! Those ads are so much fun to make. Do you have a psd version of it, by chance? That would make it a ton load easier. :) L'Aquatique[talk] 22:04, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I actually created each layer in MS Paint as a GIF file, and then used Microsoft GIF Animator to do the rest. I can upload each layer individually for you. Bob the Wikipedian (talk) 13:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Ah I see. Do you mind if I gussy it up a little? L'Aquatique[talk]
Gussy? Not sure what that means, but do what you need to. Bob the Wikipedian (talk) 01:40, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
I just mean that I have some extra tools in Photoshop to make it a little more polished (if you go to my userpage you can see some of the ads I've done in the past to get an idea of what I'm talking about). I actually have it finished but I'm posting from a different computer. I'll upload it later. L'Aquatique[talk] 03:06, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

(unindent) Hey, Bob. If no one's ever told you this before... graphic design is a fickle mistress. You sit down to do something having it all thought out exactly how it's going to look, twenty minutes later you're staring at your screen going, "I like this, but where the %#@& did it come from?!" Sigh. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, take a look at this: [1]. If you don't like it, say so, I won't be offended- design wise there are some major changes but I kept essentially the same wording and layout. L'Aquatique[talk] 07:39, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Some of that type is getting awfully close to the edge of the format... >_> /designer nitpick MissMJ (talk) 01:24, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't follow? L'Aquatique[talk] 01:42, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
On "Wikipedia: Highly Active Users", the descenders of the 'p', 'g', and 'y' are reaaaaally close to the bottom edge of the banner, and the last 's' is quite close to the right edge as well. Those life circle/question mark things are squishing the "Hau may I help you?" a bit, especially the one between the left edge of the banner and the "Hau". Maybe make them smaller? MissMJ (talk) 02:15, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I see what you're saying... The life raft things are like the bane of my existance, I was sure I had it all centered and then when I put them in it wasn't! Gah! The bummer about working in ani gifs is you have to make sure everything is exactly lined up or it looks really funny... L'Aquatique[talk] 02:56, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Are you using Photoshop to make this? CS3 Extended has an animation feature where you can make the frames out of the layers, thereby making it so much easier to align everything. MissMJ (talk) 03:20, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

(unindent) I'm using CS2- saving up to upgrade. I tried CS3, was quite impressed. As far as working with the animations, it's not impossible, just difficult at times- but I only learned how to do it like a week ago so I'm sure practice will help significantly. The guides are really a godsend, too. L'Aquatique[talk] 04:55, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

That definitely looks a lot more professional. Sorry I haven't responded yet...this is for two reasons: (1) It's the weekend, and (2) I'm just beginning a major WikiBreak (unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to get a WikiBreak without interrupting a conversation, so I'm making a point to at least follow up on discussions during the break.) Yeah, that looks decent, although I must say the HAU bounces around a bit, and the life preservers disappear so fast that the viewer doesn't have time to figure out what just flashed in front of his eyes. I'll post a link to this discussion on WP:HAU so that other editors can comment as well-- we might as well all have some input. Thanks for your persistence! Bob the Wikipedian (talk) 15:19, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Wait up on that upgrade, CS4 is going to beta right now and it'll probably be released late '09, early '10.MissMJ (talk) 16:09, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

(unindent) I actually worked on it a bit last night fixed most of the things you mention. I'll upload the new one later, I'm actually on vacation too and it's time for brekky. L'Aquatique[talk] 15:52, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU AD
Is this satisfactory? L'Aquatique[talk] 04:42, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
It looks great, however the link will have to be changed to WP:HAU instead of WP:HAU AD. Useight (talk) 15:00, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, I didn't set that part up but no worries, it's an easy fix. I'll go do that now... L'Aquatique[talk] 15:20, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I got that. What is the best format for this? Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 16:54, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
What about this version, It's definitely not perfect but I'm sure someone better at cloning images from a source point could make a much better one -- Cradel 20:10, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
It looks good, but if you're going to make that major of a change, you really, really should label the photo as being modified on its image page. Also, the image is obviously not in copyright, either in America or Japan, so the information on the page should reflect this. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 09:39, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Would someone please make a PNG version, without the artificial foreground? Thanks! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 01:10, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Done. I also undid some of the damage that the JPEG format had done to it. Hope you don't mind. Dhatfield (talk) 22:26, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
That's wonderful! What did the jpg do to it? That's how I received it. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 16:38, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
To put it into very approximate terms: JPEG chops the image into blocks (chunks of pixels), then approximates the content of each block with a single colour or a gradient fill. This is very efficient for compression and it fools the eye well, but that's because eyes are so damn smart, not because it looks good. It makes them an absolute nightmare to work with in image processing. You can see the damage done by jpeg compression if you can see the edges of the blocks. I'm not a big fan. Graphist opinion: I've got this. I'm thinking a transparent background would probably work best. L'Aquatique[talk] 23:15, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay... my computer is giving me rough time, internet is slow for some reason, photoshop freezing up. I'm going to run a virus scan in a few momentos. LOL, a 770KB SVG file?! Someone didn't bother to convert it properly...XcepticZP (talk) 16:30, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Could that be a bug? There's no lag loading it and I have a pretty slow connection... L'Aquatique[talk] 00:51, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
It's probably due to the file's text having been converted to paths. MediaWiki can't render Myriad, so I'm guessing that's what the original uploader did. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 00:59, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
How about a different typeface, then?--HereToHelp (talk to me) 01:49, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Some of that text is rather badly placed on the map as well... Not very legible. Would we be allowed to make the map nominally bigger to fit the text better? (Is anyone already working on this? If not, I can fix it.) Oh, and is there a list anywhere of what typefaces can be rendered? I'd rather avoid Arial if at all possible... =S MissMJ (talk) 02:05, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

How's this ? I used Microsoft Sans Serif font and also converted the text to paths -- CD 09:04, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Y Done -- CD 19:39, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
It would be good if someone uploaded a version with the text as text (if someone still has a copy on their computer) that way there is a version in the history for easy translation/fixing of spelling misstakes. This is usefull even if the latest and thus visible version has the text as paths. One could even use the upload comment "text as paths, use this for derivatives", to make the motivation for that version overly clear. /Lokal_Profil 18:56, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
i didn't save a text version, sorry-- CD 19:35, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
No worries, as much a tip for this one as future ones. Hopefully one day in the future MediaWiki will be able to render (free) fonts in the same way as most other software, and who knows there might even be full SVG implemantation where several translations could be made in the same image and displayed separately depending on some parameter. Until then we all do the best we can with what we've got. =) /Lokal_Profil 19:51, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
The list of available fonts is here, by the way. Fvasconcellos (t·c) 20:09, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Wow, those are so random. o_O Thanks for the list though. MissMJ (talk) 02:00, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks guys, great work.--SelfQ (talk) 15:34, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Even though all of those fonts should work they don't always display the same way as in firefox or Inkscape (just a warning). I'm guessing the randomness of them is linked to copyright issues etc./Lokal_Profil 19:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
  • I have removed the "resolved" tag because I have a few comments about consistency with the English language wikipedia:
    • It is not Tanger, it is Tangier in wikipedia.
    • It is not Madère, it is Madeira.
    • It is not Gibaltar, it is Gibraltar. Gibaltar is wrong in French too.
    • It is not drâa, it is Draa River.

Resolved. 01:27, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Article(s): Ratanakiri Province

Request: I'd like to take Ratanakiri Province to FA, but right now the PNG map is looking really sad because it gets all aliased (wrong word?) when it is stretched to fit the infobox. If we had this as an SVG, it would be easy to build others for the remaining provinces too. (I'm ok at editing SVGs, but not at making them.) I am agnostic about the colors (not sure pink and red is such a good choice), so anyone who wants to help with the SVG can certainly help with the color scheme. Thanks! -- Mangostar (talk) 08:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Article(s): Interpol, William Higgitt

Request: SVG and put on a clear background --SelfQ (talk) 11:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Graphist opinion:

Not sure it's worth turning this into ans SVG since it is a copyrighted logo and the same would go for the derivative SVG. /Lokal_Profil 17:09, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
The NATO logo, the UN logo and even the Pikachu two rows up are svg'd, so I dont think its a problem. Most corporate logos, IBM, Shell etc, are in SVG format.--SelfQ (talk) 20:09, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Yup as long as you find it in vector format already and don't make a vector version yourself based on the raster version it is fine to have SVG. You can look for vector versions in PDF documents for example. Jackaranga (talk) 20:14, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
There is a vector version in this PDF if someone wants to extract it. Copyrighted of course so can only be used under fair use. Carl Lindberg (talk) 03:09, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
That's a 3MB .svg with 9009 paths that generates nasty Moire effects at some resolutions in Foxit and Inkscape. Common sense prohibits this from being a direct .svg copy and upload and copyright law prevents us from doing a decent vector version. Interpol's decision. I can give you a transparent background (phew). If this gets nuked please upload on WikiMedia, so I can make this a derivative work. Navigating the labyrinth of Wiki copyright and the inconsistency between Wikipedia and Wikimedia is painful. Dhatfield (talk) 16:05, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
