[edit] Biodiversity and food

When you put the speedy deletion tag, it is just no more than 5 minutes after I create the page. (If you don't believe, pls check the history.) and I was just writing the page. I wonder why it happens.

Shrimp wong 04:04, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Two minutes old and nominated for deletion?

Can I just ask why? I threw together a page for Julius Smokes, and the Pittbulls page was just one of quite a few red links that resulted from Smokes'. I did not have any intentions to expand upon that article, but maybe someone else will?

And how the hell did you find it after two damn minutes? Tromboneguy0186 09:18, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Well, like I said, they've seen action all over the world. Any indy fan worth his salt has at least heard of them. Romero specifically, but the team as well is considered by many wrestling authorities to be among the best in the world currently. That, and they've held the third-most important tag team title in the country, and there exist pages for the Second City Saints, Special K, the Backseat Boyz, and the Prophecy, who have all also held it and I would say are less well-known than the Pittbulls. Tromboneguy0186 09:33, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Good enough, I'll include the tag team title and a link to OWW. Thanks for talking thru this. Tromboneguy0186 09:44, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Newbiepuppets"

It's not good to use belittling names for newbies, even if you do try to soften it with a smiley next to it. I'd like you to consider WP:BITE and remember that newbies -- even those that start by showing up on AfD -- can become useful contributors. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 16:25, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

I'd prefer it if you could include a link to the AfD in question (I don't remember which it is, but I think it closed a long time ago) so others could see the context it's in. You're really overreacting to a comment I think you've taken out of context. I certainly know that newbies can be useful contributors. Grandmasterka 00:05, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
It was on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kaloogian, which closed 4 days ago. Anyway, your response is reassuring. I'm glad you understand about newbies -- I've run into several contributors on AfD who honestly believe that newbies deserve to be called names for showing up at an AfD vote. I've been trying to counter that, and I thought this was an instance of that attitude. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 00:21, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mac GUI

Hi, could you please see my comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mac GUI? Thank you. User:Zoe|(talk) 22:28, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Well OK, but that wasn't my reason for deletion; the alexa ranking was. I was just concurring with the other user on that small point. Grandmasterka 22:31, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate it. User:Zoe|(talk) 22:33, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Current tagging of people

I noticed you reverted my removal of the current tag on Joey Harrington with the comment "...We DO, however, tag athletes involved in widely publicized speculations about where they're going to play next season". I just want to say that I think you are wrong. We don't. I can list you hundreds of athletes over whom there are publicized speculations about where they'll play next season, just as there are thousands of people in other positions and jobs where their future position/job is uncertain and much speculated about (politicians, artists, actors, etc). The current tag is not meant for people or topics simply just being talked about in the news because something in their life will change in the future. We can state this in the article without any tag. The current tag was (and I hope still is) meant for articles being in a state of very high flux where news are comming in about the event as we edit (think hurricane Katarina, ongoing elections, very recent accidents, terrorist attacks, etc. What CNN would label "breaking news"). The tag was introduced back during the 11 March 2004 Madrid train bombings when news about it were coming in by the minute putting the article on it in such a high degree of flux that flagging this to the reader with a tag was seen as necessary. But the Harrington article isn't even close to this. If and when something changes in Harrington's career, we can simply update the article with it. As we do with every other living person's article when something notable happen. For instance, we don't current-tag George W. Bush even if he's probably more written and speculated about than any other person alive, and constantly in the news.

But I'm not going to bother with an edit war over the tag here. If you really feel the tag improves the article and is necessary to have there for some reason, let it stay. But I think it should go myself, hence my previous removal of it. Shanes 22:00, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sports Illustrated Magazine Covers

How come some are considered fair use and some aren't. I put the template magazine cover for the picture and on some nobody deletes the picture and on some they do. What's up with that? Please reply. CubsFan2006 18:33, 19 April 2006 (UTC) Also, would it be ok to put the image back on the page if I explained why it is of fair use in the image's talk page?CubsFan2006 18:46, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Federalist Party (Brazil)

Thanks for creating the article on the Federalist Party (Brazil), a long missing subject on the English wikipedia, specially considering that there's a quite good article at the Portuguese wiki. I always wanted to do it myself, but then never had enough time to. I'll try to expand it with some more translations and add the party symbol (check a sample at my user page). Again, thanks. [edit] Jabberwocky browser?

Re: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Number1hater, Number1hater and

And shooting his mother when he was nine??

Your web browser must have some cool plugin that mashes bits of sentences together in very interesting ways. ;-) (Sorry, since I mis-read individual words and pairs of words so much, I couldn't help notice) Shenme 20:21, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Hah! Thanks for bringing that to my attention... Even if it was with some strange sarcasm. Grandmasterka 23:05, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wii

Just to let you know, you accidentally reverted a good edit. Sly Curado (talkcontribs) changed an instance of Wii back to Revolution, in that instance it was correct since the sentence is a quote of what was said. If you want to change it to Wii I suggest you also remove the quotations marks, otherwise it'll be a false quote. --TheKoG (talk|contribs) 19:36, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

I realized that, my apologies. It's going to be weird having the new and old terms together like they are in that particular part. Grandmasterka 19:38, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm just going to wait until all the knee-jerk reactions die down until I try any major attempt at editing the page myself. By the time you type up a big section your edit is already in conflict with multiple other versions, with some of those being possibly vandalism. It's easy to see why you'd quickly want to make a change. Then there's also the problem where someone changed all the "we"s to "wii"s, I'm still not sure if that's been weeded out of the article yet or not.  :p --TheKoG (talk|contribs) 19:43, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project Porto

Nice one for joining WP:OPO. From your list of translations, it seems that your level of Portuguese could be higher than pt-1? Modesty, a rare virtue on WP ;) Gimme a shout if there's anything you see that needs doing at the project. Porto Metro has been taking up a lot of my project time recently but I've got a lot of translations on my to do list. Deizio 11:01, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Presidente da Câmara vs Mayor

In Portugal, the political leader of a municipality is the President of the Municipal Chamber - Presidente da Câmara Municipal or just Presidente da Câmara - the municipality has several legal obligations and duties, related with the environment, traffic, schools, parks, culture, and so on. So, I think that the president of the municipal chamber may be considered the Mayor, of course I'm not a translator and, therefore, I don't know if this is really correct, but perhaps an English reader may understand the concept easily with this kind of translation. However, the term President of the Municipal Chamber is, perhaps, more correct. That's all I can say, maybe a professional translator can give us a better explanation. The word Prefeito is not used in Portugal, only in Brazil. Afonso Silva 12:07, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mãlina Olinescu

Hi Grandmasterka! There's nothing in the history for Mãlina Olinescu suggesting it was ever deleted; I've looked under probable misspellings and can find nothing. At the same time, I can't think what reason there is to delete this articlestub (the previous one may have been different?) as I'm sure the precedent is that Eurovision Song Contest entrants, having performed to a couple of hundred million people, are notable. I know the article needs expansion (and a Google suggests there's plenty of material for an editor who gives a flying... fancy... about ESC) but unfortunately "too short" isn't a speedy criterion.

If you can give me a link to an AfD ordering the delete, or a reason I haven't thought of, I'll vaporize it immediately. Until then, I think we're stuck with it. ➨ ЯΞDVΞRS 20:16, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Heh - you don't know what you're missing! The Song Contest is a Big Thing here in Europe - some countries treat is very very seriously (Serbia and Montenegro pulled out of this year's because of fears it would ignite nationalism in Montenegro the day before they vote on independence) whilst others just find it very very funny (the UK, for instance, gets Sir Terry Wogan to commentate over it, being very rude about "the foreigners", something that always amuses Brits). When Germany didn't qualify a couple of years ago, it created a national scandal and they drastically increased their contributions to the European Broadcasting Union so they'd have to be included in future. See Eurovision Song Contest for a nicely-written article that also lists some of the absurdities. Apparantly there are plans for an American Song Contest, with a singer from each state - though whether you Americans can out-camp us Europeans is another matter! (Celine Dion won for Switzerland in the 1980s, wearing a cream trouser suit top and a pink ballerina frill bottom bit. Now that can't be beat :o) ➨ ЯΞDVΞRS 20:25, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AGF on AFD:Floriberta Jiménez Torres

I'm not sure if you meant me in requesting assume good faith on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Floriberta Jiménez Torres. If so, then please note that I don't for a moment assume the nominator or supporters aren't voting in the best of faith. I am, however, assuming they aren't knowledgeable of other wikipedia articles we keep, and didn't spend a lot of time ... or hardly any ... to do a basic Google search. Hopefully those assumptions are not in violation of AGF. They're merely Hanlon's Razor. --AnonEMouse 20:20, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BlackKn1ght

Thanks :) To be honest I'm a bit surprised the block look didn't look a bit more similar to this (the largest pile-on I've seen so far!), so I guess it just happened I was around at the right time (saw the suspicious edit summary on my watchlist). Petros471 21:18, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A landslide victory for The JPS (aka RFA thanks)

Hey, Grandmasterka/Archive 2 (April-May '06), thank you so much for your vote and comments in my RfA, which passed with an overwhelming consensus of 95/2/2. I was very surprised and flattered that the community has entrusted me with these lovely new toys. I ripped open the box and started playing with them as soon as I got them, and I've already had the pleasure of deleting random nonsense/attacks/copyvios tonight.
If I ever do anything wrong, or can help in some way, please feel free to drop me a line on my talk page, and I will do my best to correct my mistake, or whatever...
Now, to that bottle of wine waiting for me...

[edit] Template:Porto

I've moved the template you created to Porto related pages to Template:WikiprojectPorto, I think it is more specific and if we want to create a template to include in the article namespace it would be better if we have that name available. If you disagree, just revert my changes. I'm now creating the article about the parishes of the municipality. Afonso Silva 09:36, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't matter either way. I based this off of {{WikiProject Scientology}} which is a simpler name. But either {{Porto}} or {{WikiprojectPorto}} will work with the page move. Grandmasterka 09:49, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Patent nonsense

Please don't tag things as patent nonsense that aren't. Patent nonsense only refers to total gibberish, such as alsk;djJKK:JKJ;kjazs v89c*(***!!!!LKNL. No matter how poorly formatted the text is, if it's legible, it's not patent nonsense. Snoutwood (talk) 22:48, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

  • That's incorrect. WP:PN also calls patent nonsense "Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irredeemably confused that no intelligent person can be expected to make any sense of it whatsoever." The speedy tag itself {{nonsense}} says "This article provides no meaningful content or history, and/or the text is unsalvageably incoherent. It is patent nonsense (CSD G1)." This is the definition most often used to refer to patent nonsense (seen in countless AfD discussions and elsewhere,) and it's the one I will continue to use when I tag pages. Grandmasterka 21:17, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you!

Hello, Grandmasterka/Archive 2 (April-May '06), and thank you for vote on my recent RfA! With a final vote of 62/2/4, I have now been entrusted with the mop, bucket and keys. As I acclimate myself to my new tools, feel free to let me know how you believe I might be able to use them to help the project. Thanks again! RadioKirk talk to me 05:42, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Parishes of Porto

Nice work creating the last parishes of Porto. Just one thing, would you link to Municipalities of Portugal instead of Concelho? There were two articles on the same subject and now concelho is like a soft redirect to the other article. Thanks! Afonso Silva 10:54, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. Grandmasterka 18:50, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Overseas doctor AfD

Hi,

I replied to your question. I have many references here, but like I say in my reply, I don't see this being kept. It's a damn shame because the 'OTD' concept is entrenched in medical doctrine. - Richardcavell 05:37, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Parish names

The name format worries me too, I already posted a question on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (places), but no one answered. I saw that in the U.S. the format was "place, other place" and I wanted to make that format the standard, starting with the Lisbon template. However, I read that convention page and noticed that there is no need for an international standard, just a need for internal consistency. So, we need to decide what format we want and change the location that mismatch our decision. I don't have a preference, whatever you say is good for me. Afonso Silva 09:40, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Have you already chosen between both formats? Perhaps the one used in Portuguese Wikipedia "parish (municipality)" is better. Say something and I'll start using it and moving the pages in need. Thanks! Afonso Silva 10:41, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Ok! Let's do it like that. And thanks for your help in Portuguese-related articles. Have you ever visited Portugal? Are you of Portuguese ancestry? Anyway, keep your good work. Thanks. Afonso Silva 19:11, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RFA for BrownHairedGirl

Hi Grandmaster, thanks for your support on my RFA, and for your kind words of encouragement. However, I have learnt from those who voted to oppose, and I'm tempted to withdraw my application, at least for now — do you that would be a good idea? --BrownHairedGirl 10:32, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Name change

Yeah, I'm aware of the ability to change names, I just never got around to thinking of a new one. According to Wikipedia:Changing username, there is currently a 200,000 edit limit, so I have plenty of time. Thanks for the message though! Happy editing. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 03:30, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for voting in my RfA!

Thanks for the vote in my RfA! I'm not entirely sure I understand your opposition based on my contributions on other projects, but I'm happy to learn you took the trouble to look at them! I believe I'm the largest or second largest contributor on en.Wikinews (EdBrown and I keep swapping positions), as well as a few thousands of contribs scattered around other projects. How you judge those contributions may be the deciding factor, however. I appreciate your comments and opinions. This RfA did not gain consensus, but I'm happy I accepted the nomination. Thanks again! - Amgine 16:27, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Cam Gordon.jpg

Hello, you have tagged this image with {{PD-ineligible}}. However, it is clear that this tag is not proper. It could be used for say, simple chemical structural formulas, but not for photos! Please read Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. If no proper license will be added in seven days, the image will be re-tagged with {{no source}} and deleted. Please ask on my talk page if you have any questions. Renata 07:16, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Ha! Thanks for pointing it out... I uploaded it a while back and was very mistaken about the liscence... I should contact these people directly. I'm sure they could supply me with free pictures. Grandmasterka 07:24, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Sure. I am going through the category of PD-ineligible... About 35% of those images are tagged incorrectly. One thing I learned in WP: no one gets image copyrights right in their first three tries. You might be able to use the pic uder fair use. Just provide very detailed description: who took it, who owns it now, why is it fair use, etc etc. Renata 07:34, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello Grandmasterka. Thank you for your full support and gracious comment (probably WP:PNT with the Vietnamese and running after a bit of Gastrichcruft) at my request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation.
