[edit] welcome

Hello there Graham, welcome to the 'pedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you need any questions answered about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or drop me a line. BTW, San Fran is one of my favorite places -- do you have any digital pics of the City to share?? Cheers! --maveric149 19 July 2002 (UTC)

[edit] Kent State shootings

What non-attributed quote did you remove at Kent State shootings? Your edit summary says this but I don't see that you removed anything. Badagnani 22:18, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Odd, it doesn't show up in the history, but the change did take. Anyway, I removed the quotation marks from around "less lethal"; they appeared to be there to imply disbelief, in violation of WP:NPOV, and sloppy, to boot. Graham 05:59, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New oil articles

I've written a number of articles on vegetable oils of late. I'm trying to write stubs for all of the missing articles pointed to from List of vegetable oils. You can see a list at User:Waitak/Articles. I wondered if you'd be interested in taking a look, to see if you think they need any touchup? Waitak 14:23, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

P.S Is this how discussions are normally carried out — page to page? I'm a bit of a newbie at this. g
Discussions are awkward on WP. Different people have different practices, but it's not really ideal for discussing on user talk pages. The two strategies I've seen are:
  • People just go back and forth between each other's chat pages like we were doing up to now
  • One of the two will put the other's chat page on their watch list for the duration of the discussion
We can keep this on your page if you like Waitak 00:58, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
And now I really want to clean up the mustard section. (So many people confuse the "mustard family" with the "mustard plant" with the "mustard seed"!) However, the mustard (plant) article has been nominated for merging... can I just go ahead and merge/redirect it, or do I have to wait for the discussion to come to a conclusion? Thanks for any advice. Graham 23:47, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
I had a quick look at the discussion. I think that, for a set of pages that are as complicated as this, it's probably best to make a concrete proposal in the talk page, let it percolate for a week or so, and then just go for it. There's not much discussion (at least not in mustard plant), so you're not going to step on many toes, if any.
Thanks for looking over the oil pages! Waitak 00:58, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I really appreciate all of the copy editting that you've been doing. Many thanks. The fix on the Community Oriented Mutual Economy page was a particularly good catch! Waitak 00:55, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

There are a number of new oil articles listed at User:Waitak/Articles if you're interested in taking a look. Waitak 02:58, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Man, you're *fast*! Waitak 06:22, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
No worries... it's easier than work! Graham 17:58, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Just thought you'd be interested in knowing that I've nominated List of vegetable oils for Featured list status. If you're interested, you can lodge a vote or an opinion here. Waitak 12:50, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] False flax oil

I'm always grateful to see the "new pages" patrol at work! :-) Waitak 10:39, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Canola and rapeseed

Oh, I don't claim to be an expert at all... just doing the WP thing and researching things that I'm interested in! As for canola - it's a variety of rapeseed - a cultivar, to use the term that people seem to use for varieties of cultivated plants. So the comment is true in a sense, that it's the same species, but it differs in several regards from (literally) garden variety rapeseed. Think of it as a different breed... Waitak 00:45, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to comment here and see if you notice... like I said, a newbie. Anyway, can you recommend a source for this issue? I'm getting the sense, too, that there might be a difference in U.S. vs. British English usage of rapeseed. Graham 23:13, 11 July 2006 (UTC) (Usage of the word, that is, not the oil.)

[edit] Urgency

Noticed your edits to Urgency. You handled the interaction with the editor very well! I added a {{db-author}} to the article, since the author ended the dialog with a request to delete the page. --Waitak 09:11, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Aw, thanks. --Graham 09:54, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Graham, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC Tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

[edit] FYI - completed 4U

Hi, Please see: User:Ste4k/VER, revert if necessary. Best regards // FrankB 03:57, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry - Just cut and Pasted the HTML and that stealth '87' in his signature snuck in and bit me on the rear... Does this happen betwixt you two a lot? Cheers and apologies! // FrankB 14:27, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Once before; I got a very aggravated e-mail from an angry editor about a revert I hadn't done. I didn't make the connection then, but now it makes sense -- thanks! --Grahamtalk/mail/e 20:38, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Signature

Thanks for informing me about that. I can see how it could have caused confusion, so I've changed my signature to include "87" in the text, modelling its formatting on that of User:Fabartus; I hope it looks OK - as I said on his talk page, I want my sig to be fairly plain and simple. Do you remember anything about the article(s) the person in the email was angry about? I remember making reverts to car articles a few months ago - it was either linkspam or blatant vandalism, so I probably don't have anything to worry about. -- Graham87 09:20, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Ah it might have had something to do with this edit. I had no idea what that site was so I just removed it; my rule is that if a screen reader can't give a description of a site that makes sense, it probably shouldn't be linked to in wikipedia. Even a well-designed image gallery should have a decent description of its contents. Graham87 10:46, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stay at home Dad

Well, I certainly didn't miss the tag! I hadn't done the sleuthing to find out when it was added, though. Makes a lot of sense! How old are the munchkins? Waitak 03:09, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Took me a while to update my bio... I've got a 6-month old girl, and her mom went back to work in June. Q.E.D.! --Grahamtalk/mail/e 07:33, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP:3O

Hey, there! Not to stir up any bad blood, but I saw a dispute between two editors listed at Wikipedia:Third opinion, regarding Benier Koranache, which appears to have been deleted after discussion at AfD. As far as I can tell, the issue has died down, but I'm wondering if you feel it's resolved to your satisfaction, or if there are any questions you have. Feel free to let me know. Luna Santin 08:01, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John Reber

Hi, I happened to notice your move/split of "John Reber." May I suggest that the current John Reber, San Francisco Bay planner become Reber Plan? It could still include biographical info on Reber himself as well. The U.S. Representative could then be moved back to John Reber, with a disambiguation link at the top:

If that doesn't work, I would at least suggest using parentheses in the titles, according to the Disambiguation guideline -- something like John Reber (Pennsylvania) and John Reber (San Francisco Bay planner). —Celithemis 08:10, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

No problem, glad I could help (on both scores)! —Celithemis 23:12, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TSN template?

I'm curious if there's a way to make a template for taxonomic serial numbers... well, it wouldn't be a template exacty, but would function more like the ISBN thing does. That is, if I just include ISBN 123456789 in an article, it's automatically linked to a page that will provide info and links on that book. Similarly, TSN 99237 could link to, for example, http://www.itis.usda.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=99237. (See the references section for Springtail.)

Is that too special for a normal editor to be doing? Let me know what you think, and thanks! --Grahamtalk/mail/e 00:23, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

  • By all means, go ahead and do it if you know how to do what you want to do (wow, did I really type that?). I just hit "catfish" on random article, and having a taxonomical link would be neat! Teke 00:36, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Ah, but you see, I have no idea how I would do it... it's not a straight template, exactly. ISBN 123456789, for example, requires no special markup; it just comes out that way. Any ideas? --Grahamtalk/mail/e 00:40, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
      • I think that the developers enabled that feature, but I could be wrong. I recommend you as at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) for further assistance. Happy editing to you! Teke 00:48, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Are you aware of Template:ITIS? --Stemonitis 08:12, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] David Kreuger

Hi Graham, I don't know what to tell you, but it wasn't me! As far as I can tell that interwiki link was present in the first version of the article. My two edits were to add lifespan cats and to disambiguate E-Type to E-Type (musician). But you are right, the link shouldn't have been there, it does sound like a music school, but its not one with an article, so for now its good to not have the link there. Happy editing! Jdcooper 11:44, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] that's not my IP!

Sorry to bother you, but I'm getting a lot of "You've Been Blocked" messages stating that I've been blocked because my IP address is 64.233.172.21. That's not my IP; my IP is 216.103.83.144 (it's a fixed IP), and furthermore, I'm a logged-in user (and I've never gotten into any trouble!). Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem? It's a bug, I assume, but it's a little annoying...

Thanks for any light you can shed!

g. --Grahamtalk/mail/e 06:28, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Google address. Do you use google web accelerator? --pgk(talk) 06:37, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
That's it. Thanks a bunch! --Grahamtalk/mail/e 06:43, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm assuming that this matter is taken care of then? — Scm83x hook 'em 19:32, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes. Sorry I wasn't more clear. --Grahamtalk/mail/e 00:00, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
