I note from the stub article that there is an idea that Gratin be merged with potato dauphinoise.
As an English chef, I recognise French as the common tongue of cookery. British cooking has many dishes that could be described as gratin, shepherds pie, for example, consequently it would be a mistake to merge the article with a purely French dish. Gratin has a major international meaning in cookery.
I will be happy to expand the gratin article if asked, provided the French do not consider it the height of cheek for a classic French style of cookery to be elaborated upon by an English chef! Nonprude 20:36, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
