Talk:Granular synthesis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I changed the remark that granular synthesis results resemble or "feel" the same as the source of the samples because this is not necessarily true. I've heard granular works, for example Barry Truax, based entirely on human voice samples that sound and feel nothing like the human voice.

[edit] mergefrom Gabor atoms
Propose merging the article Gabor atoms into this one. That article seems rather lonely, and in need of attention, and its main point seems to be to justify the ideas of this article; thus I propose a merge. linas 18:44, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
I think that it would be a better idea to develop this article under a mathematical perspective, explaining the concepts from time-frequency (Gabor) analysis and develop the Time-Frequency Analysis article. --SPin 15:37, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
- It seems like a good idea only if we can flesh out a historical section on granular synthesis, and include it there. I'd vote to leave it separate until then. Torc2 01:44, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Granular resynthesis
this isn't a synthesis method at all, but a type of sampling - it's proper title is Granular resynthesis. the title should probably be changed to reflect this and Granular synthesis redirected to the new page Inzy 23:57, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Technically you might be correct, but Granular Synthesis is the more common name. Often the waveforms are altered enough through enveloping and overlapping to be considered as a synthesis technique instead of merely a resynthesis technique. Torc2 01:22, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
you could also use oscillators instead of sampled sounds, then it would be proper synthesis. there are various examples of software that use this approach. --212.59.162.249 (talk) 13:21, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Graintable synthesis
How is granular synthesis related (if at all) to graintable synthesis? [[user:jimjamjak]] (talk) 10:05, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
