Talk:Grandfather (solitaire)

[edit] Factual issue

The article (and KPatience help) claims there is no other software implementing this game; in fact, it is implemented with a different name ("Russian Solitaire") in many softwares. The only difference is that KPatience allows 2 re-deals, while other softwares (known to me) allow none. Russian Solitaire is described in Wikipedia in Yukon article as a variant of Yukon solitaire and IMHO is worth being mentioned in this article. oxana (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 18:07, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Plagiarism

Several sentences in this article are copied nearly word for word from the source article. Mostly, this article seems to be an ever so slight rewrite of its source. Is this not some form of plagiarism, and if so, should this article be deleted? --Ronark 20:22, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

This is one of the only pages that I've seen that has text copied from a GFDL site. It's not plagiarism because the source is recognized and the copyright is not being violated because the source is licensed under the GFDL. I am not a lawyer though, so if indeed the GFDL is being violated I'll help repair the article. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 20:53, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
I do realize that the text is free to use, as is most, if not all, documentation from the KDE project. It just seems to me that a Wikipedia article should have more substance than simply copying text directly from a source, whether free or not. I know the source says that the game is not known to be implemented outside of KPatience, but perhaps the article could be enhanced by researching into the origins of the game if possible. I'll look into it. --Ronark 14:23, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
I understand and agree. I was just clarifying that there was no plagiarism. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 17:26, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
The only other reference to a solitaire game named "Grandfather" in some manner is this: http://www.bvssolitaire.com/rules/grandfather.htm. Perhaps it would be appropriate to modify the article to mention that the version mentioned is specific to KPatience, and to explain this other variant (which also seems to be specific to a different solitaire client). I'll do the modifications myself, but I'll wait for any ideas you might have. (Should this Talk Page be cleared out once we decide on how to change this article?) --Ronark 17:10, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
I could go either way (describe the KPatience rules or describe both sets of rules). Try not to go into too much detail and try to cite the sources where appropriate. As for clearing out the talk page, there is no need; some high traffic talk pages are sometimes archived. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 17:43, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
