[edit] GTA4
Hey what ever happened to the Grand Theft Auto 4 page? It has been announced http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/09/07/news_6132690.html that it will be made, we know that much. What's wrong with a little anticipation and speculation? C'mon let's put it back up.
[edit] San Andreas
I don't think San Andreas was considered a state in this game (unlike the new game that is now out). If I remember right, it had landmarks and regions that implied it was exclusively in the San Francisco area: a Chinatown, "Soviet Hill" (a take on Russian Hill) and the area (and descriptions) had a lot of references to hippies. But, it's been a while since I've played the original, does anyone else remember any of this? RADICALBENDER★ 02:38, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I don't remember hippies being mentioned in San Andreas, but it's been a while since I played the game. I do have the game to hand, and it comes with maps of each area. San Andreas has the following locations:
- Richman
- Telephone Hill
- Wood Hill
- Soviet Hill
- Sunrise
- Atlantic Heights
- Eagleside
- Excalibur
- Glen Wood
- Woodside
- Potato
- Chinatown
- Market
- Marina
- Sailors Wharf
- Sunview
I don't know whether they correspond to places in San Francisco, but I don't know the Geography of the area.Silverfish 11:43, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Yeah, more of those correspond with real locations in San Francisco:
- Telephone Hill - Telegraph Hill
- Wood Hill - Nob Hill
- Soviet Hill - Russian Hill
- Sunrise - Sunset District
- Atlantic Heights - Pacific Heights
- Sailors Wharf - Fisherman's Wharf
- The other one's might, too - I just don't know what they all are. As far as the hippies, I do remember that one of the vehicles available for driving was a very slow, very poorly-manueverable van with a flower on the roof - a reference to the Vanagon which is stereotypically considered to be a "hippie" vehicle. There were some other references, too - I can't recall them right now. RADICALBENDER★ 15:04, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Rockstar
I'm pretty sure Rockstar didn't publish this.--Dustin Asby 09:25, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
- DMA, the develepor of Lemmings, developed it, they are today known as Rockstar Games. /Grillo 09:19, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- To be exact, DMA are now Rockstar North (the British arm of the company), as opposed to the original American Rockstar. This may explain the very British "6031769" cheat code (taken from Manic Miner) in the PC version of GTA. 217.171.129.71 (talk)
[edit] Gameboy
I changed gbc to gba in the platforms section. Janne92
[edit] Computer and video game
What is a computer and video game? I thought GTA is a video game... 194.145.96.51 (talk) 14:28, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- I believe that a video game is defined as a game you play on a console you plug into your TV. -mattbuck (Talk) 15:11, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Scottish Landmarks
There used to be a section that listed areas in GTA games that where spoofs and parodies on areas and landmarks in Dundee (where the first game was origonally created) and surrounding areas but now it's gone. Could someone let me know why, please? An example would be a bridge in San Andreas resembling the Forth bridge which connects the city of Edinburgh to Fife or the Loonies in GTA2 coming from Sunnyside which is also the name of a mental hospital just outside Dundee or Verdant Bluffs in San Andreas being named after Verdant Works, an old historical mill in Dundee. There are many more aswell. Drakul 08:16, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] GTA released in 1997 or 1998?
Refering to recent changes on Grand Theft Auto (game) and Grand Theft Auto (series) by 4.226.78.13; could someone verify the actual release date?
So far, several game review sites, including GameSpot and IGN, mention the PC version of the game being released in 1998, but other sites, including Rockstar Classic and MobyGames, mention the PC version being released in 1997. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 16:27, 4 March 2006 (UTC) ╫
The game has been released in 1997 originally by another publisher "ASC" which instantly disappeared, and was later distributed by BMG / Take2, some online reviews show the game's original splash screen from the original publisher, but these are extremely rare, i saw one in link mentioned in this forum topic, but since then the original image disappeared: http://www.javalemmings.com/DMA/yabb/cgi-bin/YaBB.cgi?board=DMAGames;action=display;num=1100717607;start=1 The most common release from take2 / BMG has a copyright(c)1997 written on the back of the manual. [edit] The Music
No mention of the games soundtrack is made and I thought that's odd because a big deal is made over the other GTA games music.
Like the apparent theme song "Joyride" by "Da Shootaz" which can be heard in a car. I'm not really sure if any of those titles are correct, I just happened to find the lyrics trough Google.
LYRICS:
Hometown, downtown, speeding all around An AK47 got the power in its barrel to Move any mother that gets in my way Just another power machine out on the freeway Riding with me is my MC homeboy Knowing the rules ain't part of his program Finding the right way around this map Might be pretty hard cause he's f***ed on crack G - Grand Theft Auto You gotta make a mark and move where you want to T - Theft Determination To steal what you can and run from the nation A - Hey what d'ya say We automate the sequence and speed for my getaway Take it to the edge, there's nowhere to hide And call up the boys, let's go for a joyride Let's go for a joyride "Stop the violence from the police" you know my Dad used to say but now he's deceased He got caught in a jam, threw in the can When the cops from Brooklyn said he killed another man Seek knowledge was my main game To think about the law, to figure out the frame Just when I thought I knew justice, a cop behind me said "You just been busted" NYPD (NYPD) LAPD (LAPD) SFPD (SFPD) Don't f*** with me!
However, a mention of the song and artist is made on List of songs about computer and video games article.
I think I'm going to add a section for the games soundtrack after I do some more research, and maybe do something for the "Da Shootaz" article, so if anyone has any more info on the games soundtrack add it please --Joe dude 20:42, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I found the game's soundtrack and added it to the page (just letting you all know) Punkrock182 13:54, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Can it really by 50 Cent on the soundtrack? Kinda hard to believe, isn't it? --Soetermans 11:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Brooklyn Underground FM (Trance)
it's not really trance is it? it's more electronic hardcore and even drumnbass.
[edit] Vandalism
The edit by 80.166.140.192 was done by me - was too fast to fix the Vandalism under the Points, that I forgot to login. KDLarsen 04:24, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Helicopter
There was always a rumour there was a helicopter in the game, was it just that, a rumour? Dann 12:35 4 April 2006 (BST)
- There are in fact helicopter and boat sprites in the game, and while I have seen the boat in one Liberty City mission as a non-drivable vehicle, I'm not really sure about the helicopter (although it's possible that it's also not drivable). ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 16:21, 1 October 2006 (UTC) ╫
The Helicopter IS in the game, but not used, it does exist, and is used by several gta1 modifications. Jernejl 13:52, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Is this correct?
"Also certain crimes have a set wanted level e.g shooting a policemen will always earn you 2 stars whereas beating one to death is merely a one star offence."
I'm pretty sure it wasn't possible to beat a police officer to death in the first 2 GTA games, though you could still punch them, it would floor them but they'd get up and chase you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xzamuel (talk • contribs) 21:33, 19 December 2006 (UTC). You can punch the police officer in gta2, but you cannot punch the police officer to death. In the original gta1 you can't punch a police officer. Jernejl 13:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] American
Is this game created by an American company? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.139.207.127 (talk) 19:00, 9 January 2007 (UTC).
- Rockstars Headquarters or whatever in like London or something. Rockstar North is in NYC.
Quit swearing!
- GTA developers Rockstar North are a Scottish company based in Edinburgh. BillPP (Talk) 16:39, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Trivium not showing?
Last night I added a trivium (a cheat code which was a tribute to an earlier game) which today isn't showing on the page, though it shows if "Edit" for the "Trivia" section is clicked. I wonder why not?
(I've clicked the link to the user page for the (public) IP address from which I posted, and it seems that it was previously used (last month) by someone who vandalised Wikipedia; could this be something to do with it?) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.122.47.170 (talk) 15:06, 27 January 2007 (UTC).
- Are you talking about the Manic Miner part? If so then that's showing up to me. Also could you provide a reference or explain how it is a tribute to the game as it's not clear. Thanks --BillPP (Talk) 16:23, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- Strange, it definitely doesn't show for me (terminal at the easyInternetcafé, Trafalgar Square, London UK). It's a Manic Miner tribute because the cheat code in question was originally for Manic Miner; it's said to be the MM programmer's (Matthew Smith's) telephone number at the time...
There are references to hippies in the san andreas map: there is a flower-peace-decorated VW camper in the game, which is named "love wagon". Jernejl 13:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- The above comment should have been put in a new section, as it has nothing to do with the Manic-Miner-related trivium of this section. 193.122.47.162 15:41, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re-release and various versions
Does someone want to make a mention of the recent re-release and the modifications made? It's now missing the 3dfx and DOS components of the original releases, and instead has an altered EXE for use on modern NT-based operating systems. --Carcenomy (talk) 12:24, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
