Hey what ever happened to the Grand Theft Auto 4 page? It has been announced http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/09/07/news_6132690.html that it will be made, we know that much. What's wrong with a little anticipation and speculation? C'mon let's put it back up.

I don't think San Andreas was considered a state in this game (unlike the new game that is now out). If I remember right, it had landmarks and regions that implied it was exclusively in the San Francisco area: a Chinatown, "Soviet Hill" (a take on Russian Hill) and the area (and descriptions) had a lot of references to hippies. But, it's been a while since I've played the original, does anyone else remember any of this? RADICALBENDER★ 02:38, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I don't remember hippies being mentioned in San Andreas, but it's been a while since I played the game. I do have the game to hand, and it comes with maps of each area. San Andreas has the following locations:
  • Richman
  • Telephone Hill
  • Wood Hill
  • Soviet Hill
  • Sunrise
  • Atlantic Heights
  • Eagleside
  • Excalibur
  • Glen Wood
  • Woodside
  • Potato
  • Chinatown
  • Market
  • Marina

Yeah, more of those correspond with real locations in San Francisco:
The other one's might, too - I just don't know what they all are. As far as the hippies, I do remember that one of the vehicles available for driving was a very slow, very poorly-manueverable van with a flower on the roof - a reference to the Vanagon which is stereotypically considered to be a "hippie" vehicle. DMA, the develepor of Lemmings, developed it, they are today known as Rockstar Games. /Grillo 09:19, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
To be exact, DMA are now Rockstar North (the British arm of the company), as opposed to the original American Rockstar. This may explain the very British "6031769" cheat code (taken from Manic Miner) in the PC version of GTA. 217.171.129.71 (talk)

[edit] Scottish Landmarks

There used to be a section that listed areas in GTA games that where spoofs and parodies on areas and landmarks in Dundee (where the first game was origonally created) and surrounding areas but now it's gone. Could someone let me know why, please? An example would be a bridge in San Andreas resembling the Forth bridge which connects the city of Edinburgh to Fife or the Loonies in GTA2 coming from Sunnyside which is also the name of a mental hospital just outside Dundee or Verdant Bluffs in San Andreas being named after Verdant Works, an old historical mill in Dundee. Refering to recent changes on Grand Theft Auto (game) and Grand Theft Auto (series) by 4.226.78.13; could someone verify the actual release date?

So far, several game review sites, including GameSpot and IGN, mention the PC version of the game being released in 1998, but other sites, including Rockstar Classic and MobyGames, mention the PC version being released in 1997. ╫ ２５ ◀RingADing▶ 16:27, 4 March 2006 (UTC) ╫

The game has been released in 1997 originally by another publisher "ASC" which instantly disappeared, and was later distributed by BMG / Take2, some online reviews show the game's original splash screen from the original publisher, but these are extremely rare, i saw one in link mentioned in this forum topic, but since then the original image disappeared: http://www.javalemmings.com/DMA/yabb/cgi-bin/YaBB.cgi?board=DMAGames;action=display;num=1100717607;start=1 The most common release from take2 / BMG has a copyright(c)1997 written on the back of the manual. No mention of the games soundtrack is made and I thought that's odd because a big deal is made over the other GTA games music.

Like the apparent theme song "Joyride" by "Da Shootaz" which can be heard in a car. I'm not really sure if any of those titles are correct, I just happened to find the lyrics trough Google.

There was always a rumour there was a helicopter in the game, was it just that, a rumour? Dann 12:35 4 April 2006 (BST)

There are in fact helicopter and boat sprites in the game, and while I have seen the boat in one Liberty City mission as a non-drivable vehicle, I'm not really sure about the helicopter (although it's possible that it's also not drivable). ╫ ２５ ◀RingADing▶ 16:21, 1 October 2006 (UTC) ╫

I'm pretty sure it wasn't possible to beat a police officer to death in the first 2 GTA games, though you could still punch them, it would floor them but they'd get up and chase you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xzamuel (talk • contribs) 21:33, 19 December 2006 (UTC). [edit] Trivium not showing?

Last night I added a trivium (a cheat code which was a tribute to an earlier game) which today isn't showing on the page, though it shows if "Edit" for the "Trivia" section is clicked. I wonder why not?

Are you talking about the Manic Miner part? If so then that's showing up to me. Also could you provide a reference or explain how it is a tribute to the game as it's not clear. Thanks --BillPP (Talk) 16:23, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Strange, it definitely doesn't show for me (terminal at the easyInternetcafé, Trafalgar Square, London UK). It's a Manic Miner tribute because the cheat code in question was originally for Manic Miner; it's said to be the MM programmer's (Matthew Smith's) telephone number at the time...
Well if it does show up for you at some point, can you add a source that verifies that it is the phone number. I looked on the Manic Miner page and it doesn't have a source either. Cheers --BillPP (Talk) 17:37, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

There are references to hippies in the san andreas map: there is a flower-peace-decorated VW camper in the game, which is named "love wagon". Jernejl 13:39, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re-release and various versions

Does someone want to make a mention of the recent re-release and the modifications made? It's now missing the 3dfx and DOS components of the original releases, and instead has an altered EXE for use on modern NT-based operating systems. --Carcenomy (talk) 12:24, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
