The Grauer School, founded in 1991, is a grades 6-12 private, college preparatory day school in Encinitas, California. The school is operated by the Grauer Foundation for Education, a California not-for-profit corporation. It is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC, Accreditation Commission). The school is a member of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce.

The School opened it's 13,000 square foot great hall expansion in 2007 and now has 20,000 square feet of indoor space. The school has approximately 130 students, and an expansion to a maximum of 150 will be completed in 2008. There are two classes of 12 students per grade level for optimal class size, safety, accountability, and connectedness.

Since its founding in 1991, Grauer School students have been accepted into prominent colleges and universities, including the University of Notre Dame, the University of California, the University of Texas at Austin and New York University.[citation needed]

Worldwide humanitarian work is a school focus and speciality. Students develop humanitarian, cultural, and ecological missions across the state and worldwide, twice per year, including:

  • Forums with Chinese students at schools in Beijing, Xian, and Shanghai
  • Stovebuilding in Guatamalan Altiplano villages
  • Habitat houses around the world
  • Excursions in the cultural arts in France, Spain, Northern Europe, England, Italy, San Francisco
  • Ecological missions in Costa Rica, Brazil, Mexico, and various California preserves

The Grauer School is located in Encinitas in the northern part of San Diego County, about 5 miles north of the San Diego city limit. The school takes advantage of its location, utilising beaches, San Diego's prominent biotechnical, aerospace and computer industries, and prestigious institutions such as the University of California and Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Students work with The San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy and the Surfrider Foundation on local coastal issues.
