Takifugu niphobles (Jordan & Snyder, 1901) |
The Grass Puffer (Takifugu niphobles) is a species of fish in the Tetraodontidae family. It is found in Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam. It is often caught off beaches. docks, and piers using various baits such as worms, shrimp, Sea Lice, or cut fish. They are popular for children to cath and possibly in aquarium trade, but cannot be eaten on account of fatal tetro-doxin (Pufferfish Poison) which can cause heart problems, kidney failure, and a death-like coma that can be mistaken for death. Puffer is prepared as fugu, but the chef needs a Fugu Liscence and even then may lose costomers.
