[edit] Plot Summary

The episode begins almost a hundred years ago, with a monk running to present an older monk with some grapes that supposedly grew from a rose bush. The older monk states grapes that come from a rose bush are said to make a wine fit for the Pope himself. The older monk tries a grape, and he begins to weep.

Back in the present, Manny calls in a cleaner to clean the shop, which has become completely filthy. This cleaner however, acts quite disturbingly. This prompts Manny and Bernand to house sit for a friend whilst the cleaner is in. Fran obtains a date with a man with a "nice arse". She wears a fine dress, and tries to be nice and polite on her date, making sure that he never sees the "real her". All this however serves to only dig herself deeper, saying stupid things several times.

Manny and Bernand end up inadvertently drinking wine (That is apparently made from the rose-bush grapes from the beginning sequence) that was going to be presented to the pope whilst house-sitting for their friend. Bernand starts eating a biscuit, which turns out to be a coaster. Manny becomes stressed out and receives a cramp in his leg. Bernand tells him to use an electric massager to soothe his pain, but it ends up hurting his neck. Bernard and Manny frantically try to make a replacement wine, the attempt ending up with Manny breaking one of his teeth on the cork, strains his back and hurt his foot, making him into a "igor"-like character whilst Bernard laughs like a madman while making the wine, emulating Frankenstein.

Fran finds out that her date is gay after noticing him staring at another man and hearing his life's story. She helps him come out the closet. A month later the store is filthy again and Bernard tries some jam on toast. He finds it disgusting and throws it onto the ceiling. Fran comes in with Manny and tells she has another date, this time with the creepy cleaner man. Bernand then reads the paper with a story about the pope being killed by inferior wine, declaring that it is his birthday, completely unaware that he is partially responsible for the death of the pope. Manny stares at apparent shock of this news. The toast on the ceiling falls on his head.
