Grant Grove is a sequoia grove located in Kings Canyon National Park in the Sierra Nevada in eastern California, It includes General Grant tree, the second largest tree in the world. Grant Grove covers a little over 154 acres in the park, it has many large tree and is easy to access.
[edit] Noteworthy trees
Some of the trees found in the grove that are worthy of special note are:
- General Grant: The Grant is very imposing. The eastern side has a huge burn leaving the lower trunk very flattene, giving the tree a maximum base diameter on the ground of 40.3 feet. The Grant tree has a volume of 46,608 cubic feet (1,320 cubic meters).
- Robert E. Lee: This seemingly ignored tree is the second largest tree in the grove and eleventh largest tree in the world, this may be because the grant is very close by and simply dwarfs the Lee.
- California: Large tree close to the trail, used to be taller but a fire in 1967 reduced the tree by about 25 feet.
- Oregon: Another large tree
- Lincoln: The Lincoln tree has a large base, but tapers to much to be one of the largest. Don't get this mixed up with another tree also named lincoln in Giant Forest which is the forth largest tree in the world.
- Fallen Monarch: Large fallen tree that you can walk through as part of the trail.
