Grand Prix de la Marne

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grand Prix de la Marne was a Grand Prix motor racing event staged at the Reims-Gueux racecourse, near the city of Reims in the Marne département of north-east France. First held in 1925, it proved to be one of the fastest road races in Europe. The race first served as the French Grand Prix in 1932 and for many years was one of the most prestigious events in racing, including during the Formula One years.

After the end of World War II, the French Grand Prix returned to the Reims track for the 1950 and 1951 seasons. The track underwent major renovations in 1952 and the French Grand Prix was held on the new layout in 1953-1956, 1958-1961, 1963 and 1966. However, economics killed the Grand Prix de la Marne and the last race, held in 1969, was a Formula Two event.
