Grand Prix de Deauville
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Grand Prix de Deauville is a Group 2 flat horse race in France for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 2,500 metres (approximately 1 mile 4½ furlongs) at Deauville-La Touques Racecourse in late August.
It was first run in 1866 as the Coupe de Deauville, changing to its present name in 1871. It was notably won by the great Hungarian filly Kincsem in 1878 and by Tristan three years running from 1882 to 1884.
The distance of the race has been altered several times - originally run at 2,400 metres, it was increased to 2,500 metres in 1886, and to 2,600 metres in 1903. In 1973 this was increased to 2,700 metres, until the present distance was set in 1990.
