From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Graham Johnson (born July 10, 1950, Bulawayo) is a Rhodesian born, British based pianist and Lieder accompanist.

His achievements include accompanying a wide array of singers in a complete recorded edition of Franz Schubert's Lieder, recorded for Hyperion Records, called The Hyperion Schubert Edition. He afterwards engaged in similar projects for the same label, in the same format, of the songs of Robert Schumann, and Gabriel Faure.

These recordings have become renowned, in addition to the performances contained, for the breadth and depth of the accompanying essays which Mr. Johnson writes.

One of Mr. Johnson's students, Joseph Breinl, became the song accompanist for mezzo-soprano Waltraud Meier in 2004.
