Grad is a town and a municipality in Slovenia.
Grad means castle in Slovene, and is related to the Germanic Gard.
The castle for which the town and obcina are named dates from 1180 and is strategically situated on a hill overlooking the town. With Slovenia joining the European Union, some funds have been made available for the restoration of the castle. At one point, following World War II, the castle was divided into small apartments and used as a multiple-family structure.
