[edit] Character history

Not much is known about Grace's life prior to a fire in the 1970s which left her with amnesia. Grace was saved by Sam Bennett who took her back to his family home in Harmony. They married and raised their three children Noah Bennett, Kay Bennett and Jessica Bennett. She also helped raised Sam's much younger brother Hank Bennett after the death of his and Sam's parents. After the death of her sister Faith, Grace took in her niece Charity Standish to be raised by her and Sam.

Sam and Grace were happy for about 20 years before Ivy Winthrop came back into Sam's life and plotted to break up their marriage. In 2001, Grace discovered that she was pregnant for a fourth time with the second son that she and Sam had so desperately wanted; however, upon the discovery that Sam already had a second son, Ivy's son Ethan, Grace fell down the stairs at the Crane mansion and miscarried the couple's unborn son, whom they had planned to name Jack, on February 14, 2001.

Soon after a man named David Hastings came to town pretending to be Grace's husband from before the fire. David also claimed Grace was the mother of his teenage son John Hastings. David was actually a con man hired by Ivy Winthrop to break up Sam & Grace and his son's mother was not Grace. Grace never realized this due to her feelings for David and the dysfunction of her marriage to Sam; she decided to leave town with David and John and go to Europe.

Eventually, Kay exposed what she and Ivy had done, causing Sam to kick Ivy out of his home. Sam contacted Grace and told her everything. Grace was angry and threatened to kill Ivy and stated she would be returning to Harmony. She also later on called Kay and was at first angry with her, going as far as to saying she wished she had never give birth to her. But eventually she became sympathetic after learning why Kay had done so.

While getting ready to return back to Harmony, Grace received a mysterious phone call. She exclaimed to the mystery caller that "[her] mind is made up! [She] won't be a victim anymore!" before she proceeded to hang up. She was able to see Kay in her wedding dress thanks to a camera phone, and told Kay, Jessica, Noah, and Sam that she loved them and would hopefully be back in time to see them at the reception. She also warned Sam that someone was going to try to hurt their family and friends, and she would tell him in person who it was when she returned. She was getting on a bus that would take her to a different airport so that she can return home when a "priest" blew up the bus she was on. Luis was the one to tell Sam this tragic news. Sam received a phone call later on confirming that she was a passenger on the bus. Her death has caused her now widowed husband and three children much pain.

It has been revealed that the Blackmailer terrorizing Harmony hired the so-called priest to kill Grace Bennett. Grace may have discovered that vindictive Alistair Crane was still alive in Europe.

[edit] Hidden Passions

In the book Hidden Passions, Grace and Faith's parents were Zachary Sutter and Mercy Standish. Information in the book has not been confirmed on-screen and is not considered to be official since the information seen on the show contradicts much of what was said in the book.
