The image contributes significantly to the article as it shows what Gowon looked like during the part of his career that most of the article focuses on. Although Gowon is still alive, so a free image is possible to attain, he does not maintain a high profile. In addition to that, a current image would show someone who has been out of the national spotlight for about three decades.
