As of 1991 Bangladesh census[1], Gowainghat has a population of 169937. Males constitute are 51.58% of the population, and females 48.42%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 78207. Gowainghat has an average literacy rate of 15.1% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. [2]
