[edit] Redirect

I reversed the redirect change. If the song lacks notoriety then it should be nominated for deletion. Does anyone know if this song was the first use of the term "Governator" about Schwarzenegger? If it was, then it has notoriety, otherwise not. - Duribald 20:44, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I'm not sure if it was the first, but I doubt it. It would be really hard to prove. I'll start checking for resources asap. Also, Shoplifter (song) was redirected without any discussion. I left a comment for User:GassyGuy to ask about why he did it. I guess we'll find out. I'm going to revert Shoplifter as well.--JUDE talk 21:36, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
I just looked for some resources and it was recorded in 2003 a few days after Arnold's announcement on Leno. I'm looking for a solid resource as we speak, but it could actually be the first time it was mentioned in media form, it just wasn't produced to the public until 2004. If you find anything solid let me know. PS: The earliest I can find the reference is October 2003 from a google search. Mike wrote the song in mid/late August.--JUDE talk 04:28, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I redirected because that's usually what happens to non-notable song entries - they get redirected to a notable parent. Usually that parent is the album, but as this doesn't appear to have been released on an album, I redirected it to the song of which it was a B-side. I've reread the article and I still don't see any actual claim of notability, but I don't see any particular reason why this should be deleted when it could suffice as a redirect. GassyGuy 03:45, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Normally there's a nomination for deletion so that awareness is raised and a debate happens because it's been brought to people's attention that the article lacks notability and sources. That way people find sources and can refute the notability (that may not actually be listed in the article at present). If you just redirect it without any warning, it doesn't give anyone a chance to better the article or claim notability. I'm not saying that this article has notability, but I'm going to check just in case. I'm just trying to justify policy.--JUDE talk 04:03, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
You don't take something to AfD unless you want it deleted. I don't think this needs to be deleted. GassyGuy 07:04, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I just read my above comment and realized it looks a little abrupt. Sorry about that. I only mean to say that I didn't take it to AfD because I don't actually think it needs to be deleted. I think it would be all right to have a bit of information about it in the American Idiot article, it just doesn't seem to have enough notability in its own right. I'll tell you what, though, I'll let you do your research and conclude for yourself. If you find it to be a notable song, then please just add a source to the article so that it becomes obvious. If you don't, then please redirect it (and merge any content you feel is appropriate to the American Idiot article.) Thanks for engaging in such a civil conversation, by the way - I find that's unfortunately not as common as it should be. GassyGuy 03:02, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
It's cool! I found your response to the point; I didn't think it was too abrupt. I know many folks on the site are in a hurry. Thank you for elaborating though, I see where you're going. I did a few more google searches, and actually looked at some articles in magazines I own and couldn't find anything notable about the song. There's vague mention of it being very popular in the bay area, but that doesn't interest world politics. So I'm going to agree with the redirect. If there's anything huge about the song that we find later, we can add it to the American Idiot (song) article. I don't think anything notable enough for its own article will surface, though. Thanks for your time and patience!--JUDE talk 03:37, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
I can agree to the redirect, since there seems to be consesus around the central question of notoriety. However, if we create a redirect to American Idiot, then the song should be mentioned in the introduction of that article. - Duribald 07:27, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
