Can someone please explain what this sentence means? "Goveđi Brod is the northwestern extension of the Zemun's urban proper, located on the right bank of the Danube." I do not know a meaning of the word 'proper' that makes sense in this sentence. thank you. Wanderer57 23:54, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

I had got it in my mind that "proper" was acting as a noun here, since it follows "urban".

If it read, "Goveđi Brod is the northwestern extension of urban Zemun proper", that would convey the same meaning. Or have I misunderstood?

Until now, I had no inkling of the complexity of Belgrade. I wonder, are other old European cities as complex, or is Belgrade exceptional in this regard? --Wanderer57 03:15, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it would mean the same, so feel free to change it if you find it more...proper :o) Zemun is urban municipality of Belgrade but has urban section (which is part of Belgrade urban section or litterally narrower city territory) and rural section which is part of wider Belgrade City area. If you ask about the administrative complexity, most of the European capitals make separate administrative units in their countries and are further divided into sub-divisions (arrondissements, districts, municipalities, etc). Thank you. I made that change because I think it is clearer. (The word urban applies to Zemun, so it is 'more proper' to have it first. ;o) )

About the next sentence: "The only other neighborhood it borders in urban sense is Galenika, but it extends in the direction of Zemun Polje (northwest) and Gornji Grad (south, through Galenika)."

I think this might be clearer: "The only other urban neighborhood that it borders is Galenika, but it extends in the direction of Zemun Polje (northwest) and Gornji Grad (south, through Galenika)." Does this make sense? Wanderer57 03:38, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
