Governor's School for the Arts

Founded in 1987, The Governor's School for the Arts is one of 18 magnet Governor's Schools in Virginia. The school holds classes in Norfolk, Virginia. Admissions are competitive and based on an in person audition. Students are selected from the school systems in Chesapeake, Franklin, Isle of Wight County, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Southampton County, Suffolk, or Virginia Beach. Students may apply for admission for all grades 9 through 12. The school includes the departments of musical theater, visual arts, theater, instrumental music, dance, and classical vocal. The school collaborates with local and statewide arts facilities and programs to further their students' educations. Staff members are all (in some way or another) professionally experienced in their art form.

The 20th Anniversary Gala is occuring on May 17, 2008, at 8:00 pm at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The performance encompasses all departments, and tickets can be purchased at the box office, by calling 757-385-ARTS or by visiting www.sandlercenter.org
