Government Engineering College,Thrissur (Government Engineering College, Trichur) known as GECT is the second oldest and second largest State Engineering College of Kerala, India. It is also popularly known as Thrissur (Trichur) Engineering College. The college was established in 1957. It is located at Ramavarmapuram, 4 km from the center of Thrissur, Kerala, South India. The foundation stone was laid by the first Prime minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and inaugurated by the first Chief minister of Kerala, Pattom Thanu Pillai.
This is the Golden Jubilee year of the college (GECT GoldenJubilee).

The college is approved by the AICTE and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. The College is affiliated to the University of Calicut and is one of the most reputed engineering colleges in India. Before the Calicut University came into existence, it was affiliated to the Kerala University. Also it was affiliated to CUSAT for a brief stint of time in the 70's. Edusat facility is available in the college.The college is nearing The End Of Its Fiftieth Year Anniversery Celebration On June 2008.

The celebrations will be inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala Sri V S Achuthanandan on May 6 2007 at 10 a.m. at the college auditorium. Many more events and programs are planned as part of the celebrations. Some of them are

The first of this series was delivered by Prof M S Ananth, Director IIT Madras on 3rd April 2007. The second lecture of the series will be delivered by Sri V Leeladhar, Deputy Governor of RBI on 29 June 2007. |

The inaugural programme that kicks off the activities is the first of the Lectures being delivered by Dr. M.S. Ananth, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras on 3rd of April, 2007. The talk is on Changing Paradigms of Engineering Education
The formation of the Organizing committee was held on 5 February 2007 at a function in the Millennium Auditorium of the college, presided over by the Honourable Mayor of Trichur, Prof. R. Bindu.
The first meeting of the organizing committee took place on Friday, 2ndof March, in the Seminar Hall of the College at 2.30 pm.
