Original sword is in the Museum of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou.

Description

King Goujian's sword, bronze, about 500 BCE. It was unearthed at Wangshan in Hubei province, with an inscription stating that it was owned by Goujian, "a famous connoisseur of fine swords," as historian Patricia Ebrey says of him. Goujian (r. 496–465 BCE) was the king of the Yue State in the late Autumn & Spring Period in China's history.

This picture can also be found on page 41 of Patricia Ebrey's book Cambridge Illustrated History of China (1999, paperback edition). She also states that double-edged swords such as these were not mentioned in Chinese texts until the 7th century BCE.
