From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Gotta Get Away" was the third single from The Offspring's breakthrough album "Smash". It is centered around the paranoia of the main character of the song. The song was a decent hit and still receives airplay today. "Gotta Get Away" was inspired by a previous track, called "Cogs". "Cogs" was written when The Offspring were called Manic Subsidal. This is mentioned on the Greatest Hits bonus DVD, in an interview between Noodles and Dexter.[1] The songs title is a reference to that fact that Dexter was suffering from a lot of pressure due to the upcoming deadline.[2]
The song had two single covers. The first, the cover for the CD single[3], depicts a skeleton in the same style as the previous singles from Smash - Come Out And Play and Self Esteem. The second, the cover for the 7" vinyl[4], shows the actor from the video standing outside the coliseum, his eyes covered by the song title.
