[edit] Disco
There was another New York group named Gotham which became the first official all gay male music band ever, appearing shortly after Stonewall, in 1969. The band was comprised of five members who sang mainly show tunes and ballads. Many do not know Gotham helped pave the way for the success of the Village People, nearly a decade after. Gotham recorded several now rare albums for various independent labels from the late 1960's through the early 1980s. While, Gotham never managed to gain mainstream success, they band gained a cult following that exists to this day. After some more exposure during the late 1970s with Disco singles such as "AC/DC Man" and a 1978 album, Void When Inhibited on Aurum Records, the band eventually stopped recording albums and singles during the early 1980s to pursue other career interests. While not widely known, Gotham had a lasting impact in music history.
