Do we really need two different articles about the same plant? Wouldn't it be better to keep all the useful information about this plant in one place, so people can access and use it? -FisherQueen (Talk) 22:45, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] short or long staple?

Someone edited in that this species is not long but short staple. This surprised me since all the sources I checked had it as long staple. I double checked and discovered that among the several varieties (sub species) of hirsutum, there are some that are short staple, and some that are long. It appears from these sources that the most widely grown are the long staple varieties. The term short staple is most commonly used to refer to old world species of cotton.
