GOsa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GOsa² is a PHP based LDAP frontend to administrate a whole network with FAI, Samba, NFS, Asterisk, and LDAP. It manages users and groups in an ACL-like way. Practically speaking it allows the administrator of a network to install, reinstall and manage computers and users on a large scale network. Users can also be permitted to login to the interface in order to change what the administrator lets them change such as the passwords or the user descriptions.

GOsa² is used by the city of Munich [1] and administrations and companies to manage their whole network of computers that run under Linux. The preferred desktop environment is KDE because its alikeness to Microsoft Windows and the existence of the Kiosk framework.

Gosa² is written with easyness of use and functionality in mind without overlooking security: there is no system System call, instead it uses the sudo function. It is also scalable, for example in the configuration file we can set the timeout for the LDAP request and there are options in the PGP interface to not make full tree requests.
